The Missy North Memorial Scholarship

The Missy North Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the late Missy North, wife of Missouri pork producer Bob North. She loved raising pigs, and was very active in the industry. Bob and his family are making the scholarship available to a deserving student aspiring to play a role in the pork industry. They are partnering with the Missouri Pork Association to select candidates. A scholarship in the amount of $2,500 was awarded at the Missouri Pork Expo on February 7, 2017.


The 2017 winner was Nora Faris from Concordia, Missouri. Nora is the daughter of Paul and Betty Faris. Her family has always been involved in the pork industry ??and she has been promoting pork as long as she can remember.

Nora is active in the agriculture industry while maintaining a 4.0 GPA at the University of Missouri. She is active in the Mortar Board Collegiate Honor Society, and the Mizzou Student Foundation. She is also a television report and digital content producer with KOMU 8 News in Columbia. She was the Missouri FFA Association State Secretary from 2014-2015, and participated in the MU Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy and CAFNR Dickinson Scholars Program. She was an MPA Youth Pork Ambassador in 2014.

Nora plans to receive her bachelor?셲 degree in science and agricultural journalism, with minors in agricultural economics and broadcast tv/radio news reporting and anchoring from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2018. She then plans to attend law school, and focus her studies in agribusiness, international trade, natural resources and biotechnology law.

She is a member of the Agriculture Communicators of Tomorrow, CAFNR Student Development Board, Mizzou Block and Bridle Club where she serves as Swine Chair and has served as a CAFNR Corner Post staff writer. She is a youth mentor with the National Junior Swine Association, and is actively involved in the Coon Creek Cronies 4-H Club. Additional honors include a 2014 Missouri Youth Pork Ambassador Scholar, Dickinson Scholar and Agriculture Futures of America Scholar. She was an intern with the Missouri Soybean Association in 2015.
